My paintings are built on landscape. In most cases there is nothing unnecessary in them, they are reduced to basic elements - earth or sea, sky, and the ever-present horizon line. This structure of space harmonizes and calms, it gives things and events their natural scale. The viewer of the painting can easily place themselves within such a landscape.
Those who like to walk along the sea, or better yet - to sail out onto it in a small boat, will have noticed that mother nature sometimes likes to play a trick and disasemble this simple earth/sky or up/down order, erasing the horizon line. By sending in fog or evening twilight. The familiar structure of space disappears, you can no longer "walk to the corner, turn left, and there'll be the door” - to where your room is, your home, your family, everything as it should be.
A person finds themselves in a space without scale, one they cannot identify with. There are no punctuation marks. So where, then, is yourself - where are you?
