Jānis Kupčs (b. 1969) is a painter and ceramicist whose creative practice does not seek to merge the two disciplines. In each, the artist expresses himself differently, with a distinct sense of materiality, colour, and outlook on life.
He graduated from the Ceramics Department of Tallinn Art University and received his Master's degree from the painting studio of Aleksejs Naumovs and Kaspars Zariņš at the Art Academy of Latvia. Since 2000, Jānis has held more than 17 solo exhibitions — in both ceramics and painting.
